Should I take the GMAT or GRE?

Here’s the thing: schools will take both. They’ll take the GMAT or the GRE, and it’s completely up to you with which one you’re going to take. My advice is that you take the GMAT if you’re going into some of those heavy-hitting industries like finance or consulting, mostly because the recruiters from those companies often use the GMAT as an indicator of who they’re going to interview for the summer internship. I would take the GRE if you’re not going that route, and if you’re not a super strong test-taker, because for a number of reasons, if you’re going to have a low test score, schools would rather it be a low GRE than a low GMAT.
